The conception of this blog began with a thought shared between a friend and I about all the things we would like to accomplish if fear were not a factor. For most of my youth and adult life I've been plagued by so many of those 'what if' thoughts that I haven't given myself the chance to just 'wing it', and see what happens. In the past my new years resolutions have been just about the same. Eat healthier, get out more, get involved in various activities, but as with most I always fell short of keeping up with my promises. Why? Well, various reasons. Probably not too different from everyone else. Intimation, lack of knowledge, or to be honest- laziness. I'd love to say that I am one of those outgoing people who jump earnestly into a project and succeed at my goals most of the time. The truth is that I've never given myself the chance to succeed because of my fear of failure. This new year I'd like to change all that by jumping in head first, and letting the chips fall where they may. For some this lifestyle comes easy, but for quiet, timid me this will be my goliath. There are a few things I know I'd like to try. One is to write a novel. I've always enjoyed writing as a hobby but when I sit down to write a novel my palms sweat, and a thousand ideas, thoughts, questions, fears all race through my mind at the same time. Needless to say I never get past the first few pages because I can't stand the pressure I put on myself. Another thing I'd like to add to the list is skiing. I've only seen snow about twice in my life, so that should prove to be an adventure. Now for the most intimidating of all- to be more outgoing. Being half Irish and half Mexican, both sides of my family are loud, proud, and quite amusing. When there's a family party- boy do they party! To them I'm sure this kind of fear of rejection would seem ridiculous. Most likely I'd hear, "What are you afraid of? You're crazy! Just do it!" They can't begin to understand what it's like to be introverted.
I'm hoping this blog will help my friend and I stay on point and continue to try new things throughout the year. (This is also another way for me to try and be more outgoing.) I'm finally ready to say 'who cares?' and just have fun living. Really, life is too short not to. If anyone else has any ideas of fun, exciting things that I can try then I'd love to hear your suggestions. :)
That's all for now, but you'll be hearing more soon. I guess I should say- let the games begin!
